About the authors

Michael Evans
Michael Evans now works at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute based at the
University of Melbourne. He was Head of Mathematics at Scotch College for many years and
has been heavily involved in curriculum development at both Victorian state and national
levels.

Kay Lipson
Kay Lipson is Dean of the Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale at Swinburne University of
Technology. She has many years� experience teaching statistics at undergraduate and graduate
level, as well as conducting courses in statistics for industry and government.

Doug Wallace
Doug Wallace has been a teacher of senior mathematics at Wesley College in Melbourne for over
20 years. He is a former Head of Mathematics and is currently the Campus Curriculum and
International Baccalaureate Diploma Coordinator.

Sue Avery
The late Sue Avery was an experienced VCE Mathematics teacher and a key contributor to the
Essential VCE Mathematics series.

How to use this book

This Interactive Textbook is an HTML version of the student textbook, with additional interactive features.

Accessing resources

The following icons within the Interactive Textbook will link you to PowerPoints, Spreadsheets or Word documents. You will also find direct links to pop-up answers and interactive multiple-choice quizzes throughout the Interactive Textbook.

Top navigation

  1. Add notes to pages: create notes, save them for future reference and access them later as required from the side navigation panel. You can also delete notes if they are no longer required.
  2. Bookmark pages: create bookmarks for pages you wish to refer back to frequently
  3. Print the current page
  4. Email the current page
  5. Back to home: takes you back to the interactive textbook home page
  6. Previous/next page: takes you back to the previous page or forward to the next page; or you may prefer to use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard.
  7. Decrease/increase font size: for easier viewing of text.

Side navigation

  • Hide side bar: for full page view
  • Search: to find a specific word, enter word and select the magnifying glass icon
  • Contents: chapters from the textbook, listed by Unit, Area of study and Part
  • Bookmarks: access all of the bookmarks that you have created
  • Notes: access all of the notes that you have created.
  • All resources: direct links to the relevant Interactive Textbook pages for all audio, video, interactives and Word activities.

Navigation within chapters

Select 'Previous page' or 'Next page, or use left and right arrow keys.
